To whom it may concern,

I am writing to you today to share my serious concerns regarding the welfare of animals used in the St-Tite rodeo, which you sponsor.

Rodeos are based on the exploitation of animals’ reactions to pain, fear, and panic and are therefore fundamentally incompatible with animal welfare. Whether it is during bronco riding or calf-roping events, the “show” consists of watching terrified animals thrash about or attempt to flee only to then be physically dominated. In addition to the stress and fear caused at the psychological level, rodeo events also involve the use of coercive tools that cause physical pain or discomfort in order to force animals to perform. There is also considerable risk of injury, or even death, for the animals involved. Many places around the world, including England, Wales, Scotland, the Netherlands and the city of Vancouver, have made the choice to ban rodeos, precisely because of the animal welfare concerns they raise.

Rodeos make a spectacle out of the fear, pain, and stress deliberately inflicted on animals, in addition to exposing them to risk of injury, or even death. This form of “entertainment” no longer has its place in Quebec.

I therefore ask that you dissociate yourselves from the St-Tite rodeo today by withdrawing your sponsorship of this event.

Yours sincerely,

"}
